Sage 100Cloud – Error Cannot Open Activation Key File – NO VALID ACTIVATION FOUND!!

Question:

On multiple installations and upgrades we have gotten this error as shown below. So thought it is worth writing about. Cannot Open Activation Key File – NO VALID ACTIVATION FOUND!!

Answer:

This is usually a permission issue, have shown a few examples below as well as a link to a Sage Knowledgebase.

Steps are shown below:

In our most recent experience ran into this issue after installed Sage 100 Advance, so have highlight that case below, we set the Properties Compatibility to run as Administrator step 5 below and it worked fine.

Sage 100 Advanced 

User Account Control (UAC) may be blocking access. Perform any of the following:
Note: For more information on UAC, see Microsoft article 709691 (User Account Control Step-by-Step Guide) at technet.microsoft.com.

  • Install Sage Sage 100 Advanced to a folder other than within “C:\Program Files“.
    • Run the Sage Sage 100 Advanced / shortcut icon in XP Compatibility Mode.
      1. Right-click the Sage 100 Advanced / Premium shortcut icon, and click Properties.
      2. Click the Compatibility tab.
      3. In the Compatibility Mode selection, select the Run this program in Compatibility Mode for check box.
      4. In the drop-down list, select Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
      5. In the Privilege Level section, select the Run this program as an administrator check box.
      6. For multi-user systems, click Show setting for all users, and repeat steps 4 and 5. Be sure to select the same check boxes as steps 4 and 5 (by default, the shortcut properties are valid only for the current user).
      7. Click Apply, and then click OK.
    • Disable UAC (User Account Control) in Windows
      • Set Use User Account Control (UAC) to “Never Notify” to help protect your computer check box in User Accounts. For more information, refer to Microsoft article, How to enable User Access Control
